SEPTEMBER 15-21, 2025 WILDACRES - WEEK 2
JASON HAMILTON - SILVERSMITHING +
Silversmithing (Plus) is for both beginners and advanced skill levels with an emphasis on using fabricated stock silver material to make settings for cabochons, fossils and faceted stones in order to create rings, pendants, bracelets, earrings and more! You will learn techniques in: cutting, shaping, filing, sanding, soldering, polishing, torch and flame control, etc. You will also learn about the tools of the trade and how to most effectively use them. As your skill level rises, additional kit projects will progressively challenge you. As a fun alternative learning project, we may also touch on: silver copper overlay, filigree, making a metal stamp, and metal forming. We may also have discussions and/or demos on simple primitive casting and Inlay. I am supportive of any direction a class may take us, and you are only limited by your creativity!
The class fee is $150 and covers a basic (but essential) tool kit, cabochons for the first three projects, other miscellaneous supplies, illustrated step-by-step instructions, and consumables. I carry a large selection of stock sterling silver sheet and gallery wire, fine silver bezel wire, cabochons, faceted stones, fossils, findings, chains and other unique materials to help you create that one of a kind “Dream Creation” you have always fantasized about. I will also have additional kits of varying complexity available for purchase if you wish to explore more. My classes are super fun and inviting, and intended to teach you the basics (and beyond). For those of you that know a thing or two, prepare to be challenged! I am comfortable teaching mixed level students from any age or background while maintaining a balance of learning and fun, without the heavy stress of expectations. Some want quantity, some want quality... Expect to create between 5 and 15 items, depending on what you want to gain from the experience, your aptitude and time management.
Lab Fee: $150
Estimated Materials Cost: $50 - $500 (depends completely on what/how much you would like to buy)
Prerequisites: A good sense of humor (but more importantly, a desire to learn and have fun!)
