Class Name: Sandcasting with Upcycled Metals
Class Description:
We'll explore the process of transforming recycled copper and aluminum into beautiful, lasting pieces from alloying bronze our own bronze to casting original designs! Sandcasting is an ancient yet remarkably versatile technique that allows you to produce original metalwork with precision and control. This hands-on class will guide you through every step: preparing molds, ensuring proper venting, safely melting metals, and understanding the principles of metal flow. You'll start by working with premade patterns to grasp the fundamentals, then confidently design and carve your own patterns for casting. All materials are provided; students who wish to refine their finished pieces are encouraged to bring personal files, sandpaper, and other finishing tools (some will be available).

Jay Reddish is a metalsmith and educator specializing in sand casting with recycled materials. With over a decade of teaching experience, they create functional sculpture and jewelry inspired by history, fantasy, and the natural world. Through their workshops, Jay empowers students to explore sustainable practices and explore unusual metals.
