Silver All In One

SEPTEMBER 9-15, 2024 WILDACRES - WEEK 2

JASON HAMILTON - SILVER ALL IN ONE

The “All in One” class explores a few other skills beyond regular Beginning Silversmithing. Tips and Tricks in: Filigree, Silver Copper Overlay, Making and Using Stamps and I’ll also have some interesting kits available for making a Celtic Bracelet, Silver Dime Bracelet, Stone Road Bracelet and others. By structuring the class this way, it makes it flexible for those that already know a thing or two and allows the individual student to also treat this class as an “Open Silver Class Forum”.

This class is for beginners and intermediate skill levels with an emphasis on using fabricated stock silver material to make settings for Cabochons and Faceted Stones to create Rings, Pendants, Bracelets, Earrings and more. You will learn techniques in: Cutting, Shaping, Filing, Sanding, Soldering, Polishing, torch and flame control, cabochon and simple faceted stone setting. You will learn about the tools of the trade and how to effectively use them.

As the level of education rises, the Kit projects will progressively challenge you. As a fun alternative learning project, we may also touch on: silver copper overlay, filigree, making a metal stamp and metal forming. We may also have discussions and demos on simple primitive casting and Inlay. I am prepared for any direction a class may take us.

Lab fee is $150 and covers the project materials, supplies and consumables. I carry a large selection of stock silver materials, cabochons, faceted Stones and other unique materials to help you create that one of a kind “Dream Creation” you have always wanted to make. My classes are super fun and inviting, and intended to teach you the basics +. For those that know a thing or two, prepare to be challenged! I am comfortable teaching mixed level students and maintaining a balance of learning and fun, all while relieving stress and tension. Some want quantity, some want quality. Expect to create between 5 and 15 items, depending on what you want to gain from the experience and your aptitude.

Lab Fee:  $150 (Covers Solder Kits, Consumables, and First 2 Projects)

Estimated Materials Cost:  $150 - $500

Prerequisites:  None (but a desire to learn and have fun!)

Bio:

Jason Hamilton - TBA

I started collecting rocks and fossils since I was in diapers. I claim my artistic abilities come from both parents. Still have a full time job, but manage to spend as much time with my local club teaching. Excelled at silversmithing, cabbing, faceting and loved filigree and inlay. Studied at Jacksonville club, and William Holland from the greats for the past 20 years, and taught for the past 17 years. I have a passion of sharing what I've learned and encourage all clubs to do the same to keep the lapidary arts alive. I gauge the success of my classes from the amount of fun my students have.
