AUGUST 22-28, 2022 WILDACRES - WEEK 1

RONDA STEVENS - WIRE I & BEYOND

This class has been created to introduce students to the art of wire design. We will begin with traditional wire wrapping techniques using square and half round wire. We will continue using and building on those techniques throughout the week and I will also introduce some wire weaving projects. I will offer options for some projects that will allow you to choose the technique based on your skill level. All projects will be completed in sterling silver, gold filled or a combination of both. We will use copper wire as necessary to allow you to practice a technique before moving on to precious metals. I will have tools available for your use during class or you are welcome to bring your own. Please bring any magnification that you require, either opti-visor or reading glasses.

Lab Fee covers tutorials for projects taught in class, copper practice wire, tape and use of instructors tools during class

Material cost includes sterling silver, gold filled or a combination of the two, and beads/stones necessary for each project.

Lab Fee: $50

Estimated Materials Cost: $200-350

Bio:

Ronda Stevens - Wire I & Beyond

Ronda has loved creating since she was very young, but found her true calling with her first wire wrap design class in 2001. She began designing her own pieces, creating tutorials and teaching in 2004. She has enjoyed taking classes in many different mediums of jewelry art, but wire work, whether in traditional wire wrap design, freeform wire, or wire and fire, remains her first love. She thoroughly loves teaching and seeing her students succeed in her classes.

In 2014, she left the accounting world and began teaching jewelry making full time. She taught in her hometown of Jacksonville, Fl until her recent move to the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. She continues to travel to shows across the county teaching at the Tucson Gem Show, Bead and Button and Bead Fest.

She teaches several times a year at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts. In 2020 she began teaching classes virtually and has really enjoyed connecting with students. She is co-owner of the Annual Great Bead Escape Retreat which began introducing attendees to the world of Jewelry Art in 2011.

She released her first book, The Art of Wire Wrap Design in October 2013 and her second book, The Art of Wire Wrap Design II, was released in July 2016. You can find out more about Ronda on her website at www.twistsnturns.com
