Roy is a retired Computer Software Development Manager. During his career he designed and managed complex software systems for a wide variety of clients. His clients included NASA, several government agencies, numerous large industrial corporations and several electric utilities. He is also an experienced instructor having managed technical training and taught user level classes throughout his entire professional career.
Roy is a Past President of the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies (SFMS) and has been actively involved in SFMS activities for 32 years. He has attended numerous SFMS workshops at Wildacres and William Holland. He has also served as registrar and director at SFMS Wildacres workshops and has served as SFMS Education Director. As an instructor, Roy has taught Opal Cutting, Cabbing, Faceting, and Beginning/Advanced/Fused Chain-Maille’ Jewelry at SFMS workshops.
Roy has been an active member of the Canaveral Mineral & Gem Society (CM&GS) in Melbourne, FL for over 34 years. He has served as the education and workshop director and the newsletter editor for CM&GS. He currently teaches Chain-Maille’ Jewelry (Beginning/Advanced/Fused), Enameling, Opal Cutting, Metal Fusing, and Intarsia at the CMGS workshops.
Roy is also a competitive exhibitor who has won numerous masters’ level trophies at both SFMS, South Central Federation of Mineralogical Societies (SCFMS), and American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS) competitions. He has won trophies in Opal Cutting, Wire Wrapped Jewelry, and Minerals. He is a certified SFMS and AFMS judge. Roy has served as the chairman of the AFMS Uniform Rules (for judging) committee.
Roy is an accomplished artisan in the following jewelry areas: Chain-Maille’, Wire Wrapping, Faceting, Cabbing, Silversmithing, Goldsmithing, Casting, Enameling, Channel Work, Intarsia, and Precious Metal Clay (PMC). He has presented numerous programs on techniques in these areas as well as teaching or assisting with classes in each area.
Roy’s current passion is mixed media Chain-Maille’ Jewelry. His unique Chain-Maille’ Jewelry designs are enhanced by the incorporation of other items such as Crystals, Fused Glass, Beads, PMC, and Fused Chain-Maille’.
